Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce the exercise that sounds like a primate trying to do its taxes while hanging from a tree. You grab that pull-up bar with an underhand grip — palms facing you — just a bit wider than your shoulders. Hang there with your arms fully stretched, and then bend your knees to a perfect ninety-degree angle so your calves are floating parallel to the ground while your thighs stay perpendicular. You look like you're sitting in an invisible chair that's suspended in midair, which is honestly a power move.
Now here's where things get absolutely unhinged in the best possible way. On the exhale, you simultaneously pull yourself upward AND drive your knees up toward your chest. It's a chin-up and a crunch having a baby, and that baby is pure core-and-arm chaos. You stop ascending the moment your nose reaches bar level, and by that point, your knees should be up at chest height and your midsection should be crunched like you're trying to fold yourself in half like a letter.
The descent is where you get to breathe — slowly, controlled, no dropping like a sack of potatoes. Inhale as you return to that hanging chair position. Repeat this magnificent two-for-one special until your biceps and belly are both submitting handwritten resignation letters. It's the kind of movement that makes you feel like a jungle animal with a gym membership, and I'm here for it.
