The Chest-Bumping Sky Reacher SCAN DEPTH: 100%

Mechanism · Protocol Notes

Let me tell you about the kind of pull-up variation that makes regular pull-ups feel like they're phoning it in. You grab that overhead bar with an underhand grip — palms facing you — and hang there with your arms fully stretched out, chest thrust forward like you're about to start a Broadway musical number, and your whole body leaning back. You're going to maintain that lean throughout the entire show, like a tree bending in a windstorm that refuses to snap.

Now you pull, but not the way you think. Your spine stays arched the whole time, head tilted away from the bar like you're trying to avoid an awkward conversation at a party. Exhale on the way up. As you get higher, something wild happens — your hips and legs swing out to roughly a forty-five-degree angle from the ground. You look like a human bow, and that's exactly the point.

Keep pulling until your collarbone clears the bar and the bottom of your chest — the sternum area — literally touches the metal. Hold that squeeze for a second and let your back muscles appreciate the moment. Your head ends up roughly parallel to the ground at the peak, which is honestly a great angle for your gym selfie. Lower yourself slowly on the inhale and repeat until your lats have achieved sentience.
