Picture this: you're lying flat on a bench, hoisting that wonderfully weird wavy bar above your face with arms reaching toward the heavens, and you're about to lower it straight toward your forehead. If that sounds like a horror movie setup, congratulations — you've just discovered one of the most entertainingly named movements in all of fitness.
Grip that zigzag bar firmly and position it with your arms perpendicular to the ground. Your elbows stay tucked in like they're trying to hide from the bar itself. This is your launch position. Now comes the fun part: while keeping those upper arms absolutely frozen in place — seriously, don't let them wander like a lost tourist — bend at the elbows and guide the bar toward your noggin. Inhale as it descends, because nothing says zen like a metal object approaching your skull.
Once the bar hovers above your forehead like an uninvited guest, press it back up by straightening your arms, exhaling with authority. The zigzag shape of the bar isn't just for aesthetics, by the way — it puts your hands at a more forgiving angle than a straight bar, saving your wrists from complaining. Repeat this up-and-down skull-threatening rhythm for your designated rep count, and your triceps will feel like they've been through a seriously intense negotiation.
