Now here's a move that puts the "awkward" in "awkwardly effective." Grab a weight for each hand and drape yourself face-down over an incline bench, shoulders near the top edge. Your arms dangle freely off the front, hanging perpendicular to the ground like two pendulums on a clock that's lost its sense of time. Let them just hang there for a moment — feel that stretch, that sense of vulnerability, like you're waiting for the dentist to start.
Position your elbows snug against your ribcage and flip your palms forward to face the room in front of you. From this hanging position, you're going to curl both weights up toward your shoulders by squeezing those biceps with everything you've got. Exhale on the way up, and here's the golden rule: only the forearms move. Your upper arms are on strict lockdown against your sides. If they start drifting forward like curious toddlers, you're cheating, and the biceps are sending you a disapproving glance.
Squeeze hard at the top — really wring out those muscles like you're twisting a towel dry — then let the weights descend in a slow, agonizingly controlled fashion. That slow return is where the growth happens, so don't rush it like you're late for a meeting.
Repeat for the prescribed count. Yes, you look like you're conducting a very strange orchestra while lying on your stomach. But your biceps will be so pumped they might just request an encore.
