The Poolless Scissor Splash SCAN DEPTH: 100%

Mechanism · Protocol Notes

Ever watched Olympic swimmers do that rapid-fire little kick at the edge of the pool and thought, 'I could do that, but without the water and on a bench'? Well, buckle up, champ, because that's exactly what we're doing here. Lie face-down on a flat bench with your hip area perched right on the edge — your legs should be sticking out past the bench, toes hovering above the ground. Grip the front edge of the bench with your arms, basically hugging the surface like it owes you money.

Clench your posterior chain — that's your backside and the underside of your upper legs — and straighten your stems until they're level with your hip line. This is your home base position, and honestly just holding this is already a workout for some folks. No judgment.

Now comes the fun part: hike your left limb above your right one, then immediately reverse — drop the left while raising the right. Keep alternating in a rapid, scissor-like fashion, exactly like you're performing that signature aquatic kick, just minus the chlorine and the Speedo. The key here is maintaining control throughout. Don't flail around like a fish on a boat deck — this should be a controlled, rhythmic flutter.

Keep breathing normally throughout the entire sequence. That's right — no synchronized exhale-inhale timing here, just regular old respiration. Continue your aquatic impersonation until each leg has completed the prescribed number of reps. Your glutes will be singing soprano by the end, and you'll never look at a swimming warm-up the same way again.
