Grab a barbell with an underhand grip -- palms facing forward -- and position your elbows close to your torso but shifted slightly behind your body. That's right, behind you, not pinned to your sides like you're trying to sneak past a TSA checkpoint. This is your starting configuration, and it's about to get weird in the best possible way.
As you exhale, you curl that bar upward while simultaneously pulling your elbows back, dragging the bar along the front of your body like you're trying to iron your shirt with a very heavy, very slow-moving appliance. The bar stays in constant contact with your torso throughout the entire upward phase, which is what makes this movement so diabolically effective. Your elbows travel backward rather than staying fixed, which changes the angle of attack on your front arm muscles in a way that'll have them wondering what they did to deserve this.
The descent is equally important -- you lower the bar slowly, maintaining that body contact the whole way down, keeping the movement controlled and deliberate. No swinging, no shrugging your shoulders up to your ears, no using momentum to cheat the weight upward. This is a pure isolation movement that targets the long head of your biceps like a laser-guided missile. If regular curls are a broadside attack, this technique is a surgical strike, and your arms will feel the difference immediately.
