The Wire Yank Shoulder Elevator SCAN DEPTH: 100%

Mechanism · Protocol Notes

Behold the cable machine — that towering contraption in the corner of the gym with more pulleys than a sailing ship. We're going to use the low setting for this one, so select your desired resistance and attach a single-handle grip to the bottom pulley. Grab it with your left mitt first.

Stand with your back facing the pulley station, arm hanging down with the handle resting in front of your thigh zone. Your arm should be extended and palm facing toward your leg. This is the starting configuration, and from the outside, you look like you're just standing there holding a rope — which is exactly the deception we want.

Now, while keeping your torso absolutely stationary — no rocking, no leaning, no using body English to cheat the weight up — raise your left arm directly in front of you. Maintain just a whisper of a bend at the elbow and keep that palm facing downward the entire ride. Continue elevating until your arm is just slightly above the horizontal plane relative to the floor. Exhale during the lifting portion and hold still at the apex for a solid second. Really feel that front shoulder region burning.

Inhale as you smoothly return your arm to the starting stance. Complete all your designated reps on this side, then swap to the right arm and repeat the entire sequence. Alternating sides ensures balanced development, unless you only train one side, in which case you'll look like a lopsided superhero — which, honestly, is still kind of cool.
