The Cable Hug of Doom

Picture yourself lying on a flat bench positioned between two cable stations, arms stretched wide like you're about to embrace the entire universe. Now imagine hugging that universe together using nothing but your pectoral muscles and the steady resistance of those cables. Sounds poetic, doesn't it? Well, the burn is anything but poetic — it's a full-blown Shakespearean tragedy for your chest.
Position a flat bench squarely between two low pulleys so that when you recline, your sternum lines up with the cable attachments. Have a buddy hand you the handles — or channel your inner acrobat and grab them yourself — with your palms tilted skyward. Extend your arms out to the sides with a gentle bend at the joints, and crucially, maintain that same slight curvature throughout the entire motion. No straightening, no extra bending — lock that angle in like it's a sacred contract.
Now sweep both arms forward and together in a wide arc, bringing the handles together above your chest like you're clapping in slow motion underwater. Crush your pecs together at the peak and hold that squeeze for a beat, because that's where the magic lives. Then, with agonizing control, let the cables pull your arms back out to the stretched position. The constant tension from the cables is a game-changer, keeping your muscles under load from start to finish — unlike dumbbells, which slack off at the top. Your chest will never forgive you, and that's exactly the point.
