The Diagonal Float for Happy Shoulders SCAN DEPTH: 100%

Mechanism · Protocol Notes

This right here is the gentle, corrective soul of shoulder training — the move that doesn't ask for your max effort but instead politely requests that your rotator cuff and scapular stabilizers please show up to work for once. Grab light weights in both hands and let them hang at your sides. Thumbs point upward, like you're giving the world two simultaneous thumbs-up, which, given what you're about to do, is either optimistic or delusional.

Now raise both arms forward and outward simultaneously, following a path that's about thirty degrees off from straight ahead — so not directly in front of you, and not straight out to the sides, but somewhere in that diagonal no-man's-land in between. It's a specific angle, and yes, it matters. This diagonal is where the supraspinatus lives, that sneaky little rotator cuff muscle that's always the first to complain and the last to get any attention.

Keep the arms fully extended throughout the journey. No bending, no shrugging, no recruiting the traps to hijack the movement — they're not invited to this particular party. Lift until your arms reach parallel with the ground, hold that destination for a moment, and then lower with control back to the start.

It's not flashy. It's not going to get you a standing ovation at the gym. But do these regularly and your shoulders will thank you by not hurting every time you reach for the top shelf. That's the real prize.
