The Horizontal Bird Impression with Double Iron SCAN DEPTH: 100%

Mechanism · Protocol Notes

If you've ever wanted to look absolutely ridiculous while simultaneously building a backside set of shoulders that could crack walnuts, this is your jam. Plant yourself face-down on a bench that's tilted just a smidge off horizontal — we're talking maybe fifteen degrees, not a cliff face. A weight in each hand, arms dangling toward the floor like wet noodles at a buffet.

Palms face inward, elbows carry a micro-bend, and your arms hang perpendicular to the ground. This is the calm before the storm. From here, you're going to fan both arms outward simultaneously, like you're trying to take flight off this bench — which, spoiler alert, you will not achieve, but the effort is what counts.

Raise those limbs until your elbows reach shoulder altitude and your arms are roughly parallel with the deck. The key detail that separates the pros from the chaff: your arms must stay perpendicular to your body the entire time. No cheating by letting them drift forward or back. And when you hit the top, hold it — give those rear deltoids a moment to truly understand what you've just put them through.

Lower with deliberate control, fighting gravity the whole way down, because that's where half the benefit lives. Rush the descent and you're basically just swinging your arms around for cardio, which is not why we showed up today. Repeat for the full set and embrace the glorious awkwardness of it all.
