Welcome to the world's simplest joint-lubrication ritual, and honestly, one that'll make you look like you're performing some kind of interpretive dance in the middle of the gym. But hey, your rotator cuff called, and it said it absolutely loves this stuff.
Park yourself either standing or sitting with your feet roughly hip-width apart, looking confident and casual. Now reach across and plant your mitts on top of your shoulders — the universal sign language for "I don't know" — with your arm joints sticking out to the sides like you're about to take flight. From this magnificent perched position, begin tracing lazy circles with those pointy elbows, as if you're stirring an enormous invisible cauldron.
Breathe out as you initiate the circular path and breathe in as you complete each orbit. Sounds simple, right? That's because it is — but don't confuse simple with worthless. These gentle rotations bathe your shoulder sockets in synovial fluid, which is basically premium motor oil for your joints. After a few rotations in one direction, switch to the other way, because symmetry matters even in tiny circular motions. Do enough of these and your upper body will feel like it just received a VIP massage from the inside out.
