Protocol VI · Recovery
The Vertical Iron Drag to Chin Town
SCAN DEPTH: 100%
Mechanism · Protocol Notes
Stand up straight with a weight in each mitt, arms long at your sides, palms facing backward toward your glutes. Look in the mirror — you look like you're waiting for a bus that's never coming. Well, the bus isn't coming, but an incredible shoulder pump is, so let's get moving.
Using the muscles on the outside of your shoulder girdle, haul those weights straight upward along the front of your body. They should trace a path right up your torso, staying close, practically brushing against your shirt like they're trying to read what's printed on it. Keep pulling until the weights hover near chin level. Your elbows are the generals here — they command the operation and should always sit above the level of your hands. If the hands start leading, you've lost the plot.
Pause at the peak for a one-count. Feel those lateral deltoids and upper traps light up like a switchboard. Then — and this is critical — don't just drop the weights. Lower them with the deliberate pace of someone who knows that the eccentric phase pays the bills. Inhale on the way down, stay tall, and don't let your torso start swaying like you're at a concert.
Repeat for the full set. It's a beginner-friendly move in theory, but do it right and your side shoulders will be burning like they just got called into the boss's office.
