The Kneeling Faceplant Prevention Drill SCAN DEPTH: 100%

Mechanism · Protocol Notes

So you want to strengthen the backside of your legs without any fancy equipment? Welcome to the noble art of controlled tipping. You'll need either a willing accomplice who doesn't mind gripping your ankles like their life depends on it, or something sturdy to wedge your toes under — a couch, a heavy dumbbell, a cooperative pet, whatever gets the job done.

Start upright on your knees with your upper pins and torso forming a proud, vertical column. If you've recruited a buddy, they should have a death-grip on your feet to anchor you in place. This, my friend, is your starting stance — and also the last moment of dignity you'll have for a while.

Now begin the descent by extending at the knee joint. The critical instruction here — and I cannot stress this enough — is to keep your hip hinge completely neutral. Do NOT fold forward at the waist. You're essentially tipping forward like a slow-motion timber fall, keeping your body as a single rigid plank from knees to noggin.

As you approach the ground, stick your hands out in front to catch yourself. And honestly? That's fine. This move is brutally tough and most mortals can't complete it unassisted. Use your palms to give yourself a gentle push off the deck to help you return to the upright position. Think of your hands as training wheels — eventually you'll need them less, but for now they're saving your teeth.

Repeat until your rear leg muscles have seen enough, or until your partner's grip gives out. Whichever comes first.
