The Seated Springshoot onto a Box SCAN DEPTH: 100%

Mechanism · Protocol Notes

Buckle up, because we're about to combine sitting down with explosive jumping, and if that sounds contradictory, that's because it is — in the most entertaining way possible. Set up a box next to a bench. Hug a weight against your chest with both hands and take a seat on the bench like you're settling in for a casual afternoon. You are not settling in. You are a coiled spring pretending to be relaxed.

Plant your feet flat on the ground and lean your torso forward slightly. Then, without any warning or preamble, explode through your hips and knees like the bench suddenly became lava. Launch yourself up and forward toward the box with enough force that you actually leave the ground. This is the part where onlookers will do a double-take because who jumps from a seated position? You do. That's who.

Land on the box with both feet, absorbing the impact by letting your hips and knees bend softly — think of yourself as a cat landing on a shelf, not a sack of potatoes hitting the floor. Step down carefully, return to your seated launch pad, and repeat.

This move builds outrageous lower-body power and teaches your legs how to produce force from a dead start, which is a skill that transfers to just about every athletic endeavor and also to catching buses that are already pulling away from the stop.
